How to Sideload Apps on Amazon Fire TV

Step 1: Enable Developer Options

  1. On your Fire TV, go to "Settings" > "My Fire TV"
  2. Select "About"
  3. Quickly tap the "Fire TV" (or "Fire TV Stick 4K or what ever device you have") text 7 times.
  4. You will see a message that says "You are now a developer"
  5. Go back to "Settings "> "My Fire TV" and select "Developer Options"

Step 2: Enable Apps from Unknown Sources

  1. In "Developer Options" select Apps from Unknown Sources.
  2. You will see a warning message that says "Apps from unknown sources can be harmful to your device. Do you want to continue?"
  3. Select "Turn On"

Step 3: Disable Screensaver

  1. In "Developer Options", select "Screensaver"
  2. Then select "Disabled"

Optional: Enable ADB Debugging

  • ADB Debugging allows you to control your Fire TV from a computer or some local apps that can emulate device control (Eg mouse toggle)
  • This can be useful for debugging apps, using virtual control such as a mouse, or remote app installs to your device.
  • To enable ADB Debugging, select "ADB Debugging" in "Developer Options" and then select "Turn On" accepting any OS generated warnings!

Now you are ready to sideload apps!

To sideload an app, you will need the actual APK file, you can both download and sideload apks using something like Downloader.

Here are some tips for sideloading apps:

  • Only sideload apps from trusted sources.
